20-year-old caught with AK-47s after high-speed chase in Duduza
A high-speed chase in Duduza ended with a shocking discovery: two AK-47s, a shotgun, and live ammunition found in a VW Polo driven by a 20-year-old.
Duduza – Officers from the EMPD Kwa-Thema Precinct apprehended a 20-year-old man in Duduza for possession of unlicensed firearms on October 3.
While on duty, officers came across a silver VW Polo driving at high speed without registration plates at Sonnestral and Setape Street. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was asked to produce a driver’s licence, but he was unable to do so, explained CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
Officers then instructed the driver to open the boot, where they discovered two AK-47 semi-automatic rifles with visible serial numbers, a pump-action shotgun marked ‘Destroyer’ with an intact serial number, and 18 live rounds of ammunition with accompanying magazines.
Dlamini said the driver alleged he was transporting the firearms to his uncle at a security site. The suspect’s father reportedly arrived at the scene and claimed that his son was unaware there were firearms in the vehicle.
“The suspect was arrested and detained at the Duduza Police Station and will soon appear in court. All the rifles and the VW Polo were booked in for further investigation,” Dlamini added.
