Duduza family demands justice after son’s fatal stabbing

The Sibiya family was left devastated after their son, Banele Sibiya, was fatally stabbed in Duduza.

Duduza – The Sibiya family is reeling from grief after their son, Banele Sibiya (30), was stabbed to death on October 5.

The incident occurred in the Thabo Village (Zamani Section) in Duduza. A woman known to Banele has been arrested in connection with the murder.

According to his sister, Ntombikayise Sibiya, Banele worked at a paint company in Nigel during the week and did mechanical work on weekends.

On the day of the incident, Banele had gone to help a friend with towing a car and was expected home at around 18:00, but he returned closer to 21:00.

“According to what the friend told us, when they arrived at his house, they found the gate locked. They jumped over the fence to get the keys inside.

“When they knocked on the door, they were confronted by the woman, who allegedly poured boiling water on Banele and his friend,” alleged Ntombikayise.

“Moments later, the friend noticed that Banele had collapsed and had been stabbed. The friend sustained a stab wound on his hand and burns on his face,” Ntombikayise further alleged.

It is claimed that the friend called out for help from neighbours, who helped rush Banele to the Dunnottar (Nokuthela) Clinic.

“Sadly, upon arrival at the clinic, Banele was pronounced dead. Our brother did not deserve to die this way. We are beyond hurt, heartbroken and deeply frustrated,” added his sister.

Ntombikayise said the family has not received a case number or communication from the police, saying it felt like his death did not matter because he was a man.

She added that the family was struggling to cope, describing Banele as a peaceful, hardworking young man who avoided conflict at all costs.

The Sibiya family will lay Banele to rest on October 11, but continues to seek justice for him, saying they will not rest until there is justice.

“We are appealing to the community and authorities to ensure justice for my brother. Silence cannot continue just because the victim is a man,” said Ntombikayise.

The family has called for equal attention to all cases of GBV, regardless of the victim’s gender, and urges anyone with information or support to come forward while they continue their fight for accountability and closure.

Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed the incident. She said a neighbour at home on October 5 heard the loud noise of a banging door at Wagplek, Zamani Section, Duduza.

It is alleged that when the neighbour got outside, he saw the deceased banging on the door trying to get into the house.

“The neighbour then went back inside the house to inform his wife of what was happening at their neighbours. Then, they heard a woman’s voice screaming, calling people to call an ambulance.

“That is when he rushed to the neighbour’s house and found the deceased lying on the floor in a pool of blood,” explained Sekgobela, adding that the suspect was still holding a knife in her hands.

“The victim was taken to the clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival. The suspect was then arrested and detained at the Duduza Police Station,” Sekgobela added.
