Nokuthula Fundama represents SA at French festival

Kwa-Thema artist takes South African sound to the world stage in France.

Kwa-Thema – SA artist Nokuthula Fundama has made a significant impact on the French music scene, showcasing her cultural heritage and musical talent on the international stage.

Fundama and her band performed at the Festival International du Film Panafricain (FIFP) in Cannes, France, in October. They graced the opening function and the gala dinner, where their audience appreciated their performances.

“The festival presents an opportunity for cultural exchange, showcasing Pan-African cinema, African cultures and the rich heritage of its global diaspora,” said Fundama.

“We represented SA through our music, with support from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture National.”

Fundama is a vocalist, songwriter, composer, poet and recording artist. She founded King Fundama Media and the Ndlondlobala Foundation, an NPO that uses the creative arts to empower young people.

From corporate life to global stages, Fundama continues to rise in the music world.

Her musical journey is rooted in purpose. After transitioning from a corporate career to pursue music full-time, she crafted a sound that blends SA rhythms with Afrojazz, Afrosoul, Afropop and gospel, while remaining grounded in cultural tradition.

“I have a passion for restoration, transformation, love and purpose-driven living,” she explained.

Her debut album, Ngizoqina (2015), earned her a 2016 SABC Crown Gospel Award for best gospel jazz song. She has continued to release celebrated projects, including Phakama Vol 1 (2021) and Phakama Extended (2022).

Besides her artistic work, Fundama has enhanced her industry knowledge through certifications in music theory, publishing and music business, strengthening her foundation as a creative leader.

Her performance in France marks another milestone in a growing international footprint, as she continues to share SA music with the world.
