Duduza school marks Penny Penny Day with laughter and community spirit

Learners and teachers at Emzimkhulu Primary School in Duduza brought joy and creativity to their annual Penny Penny Day, raising funds for their prize-giving ceremony.

Duduza – Emzimkhulu Primary School observed Penny Penny Day on November 5. Penny Penny is an annual commemoration held in November in SA townships and originates from Guy Fawkes Day.

On Penny Penny Day, children dress up as elderly people, knock on doors and dance to collect tips. The school embraced the day as part of fundraising for the year-end academic prizegiving ceremony.

“We wanted to make fundraising fun while involving everyone, staff and learners. The day was full of with laughter, excitement and creativity. It helped unite the school community and went well,” explained teacher and organiser Nomasonto Radebe.

The school aims to observe the day annually.
