Learners at Michael Zulu Primary School gain life-saving breast cancer knowledge

It is never too early or too late to learn about breast cancer.

The N17 National Radiology Services celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Michael Zulu Primary School on November 3.

The radiology team provided information to the learners and taught them about breast cancer. Teacher Fikile Mabuza said breast cancer awareness in schools empowers learners with knowledge, encourages healthy habits, reduces stigma and prepares them to take care of their own health and support others.

“Teaching learners about breast cancer at a young age helps them understand the importance of self-care and early detection. Learning about warning signs, such as lumps or unusual changes, equips them with knowledge that can save lives.

“Education at school lays the foundation for preventive healthcare habits,” she said.

The radiology service team gave the learners pens and pamphlets. It also encouraged teachers aged 35 and older to book a mammogram.

Mabuza thanked the team for choosing their school to teach and present on breast cancer.

“This has educated our learners about something they did not know. They will now educate others,” she added.
