Ekurhuleni crime sweep nets 238 suspects and six firearms

SAPS and law enforcement agencies make major arrests in Tsakani, Tokoza, Vosloorus, and Duduza, targeting car hijackings, serious crimes, and gender-based violence.

Tsakani – Police officials nabbed 238 suspects and removed six firearms from the wrong hands in the Ekurhuleni area between November 14 and 16.

Among the arrested suspects, detectives across the district arrested 162 for contact crimes, contact-related crimes, other serious crimes, and gender-based violence.

In other areas, the police arrested most suspects for driving under the influence, possessing drugs, and being illegal immigrants.

According to Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the officers followed up on a tip-off received on November 14.

“Members of the SAPS Tsakane Trio Task Team, DPCI , EMPD, and Springs Crime Prevention followed up on information regarding suspects who are masterminds and are allegedly involved in car hijackings, and in the killing of a police member in the area.

“The four suspects led the team to Basuthwini Hostel in Vosloorus, where eight suspects had three unlicensed firearms and some R5 rounds,” explained Sekgobela.

Sekgobela also stated that the suspects were in possession of a hijacked vehicle linked to a September 2025 incident in Katlehong.
