Kwa-Thema – A thrilling game between Amagrootman and the Amabhubezi Masters kept spectators on the edge of their seats on November 23.

The game was played to a 1-1 draw at the Bohman Ground in Tsakani. The two teams were locked in battle, each playing tactically while defending their position. Amagrootman chairperson Sibusiso Mdake said their first half was with mistakes.

“Our mistakes led to our opponents’ first goal. It is our first season competing in this league, and one of our disadvantages is work schedules, as many players work Sundays. That often leaves us playing without enough players,” explained Mdake.

He said that, besides their minor mistakes, he was pleased with how they played and how the game concluded.

Xolani Mgcina, the Amabhubezi Masters chairperson, said his teammates did not respect time, and they started the game with insufficient players.

“Our skeleton starting line-up set us back. Funnily enough, things worked out, we got more of the ball and were able to attack and score,” he explained.

“The first half was not as tough as we had anticipated.”

Mgcina said the dynamic changes they usually rely on did not work in their favour, “The people we normally expect to come into the game and make changes did not do that this time.

“I do not know what went wrong. I do not know whether they took the game for granted, knowing the team would no longer make it to the top eight because of the last three games where we dropped points,” he said.

He said the players’ body language was slightly different, and that he was disappointed by how the game ended.
