The EMPD urges motorists to collect their impounded vehicles before the January 26 deadline. It warns that it could dispose of any unclaimed vehicles once the deadline passes.

According to the CoE, the vehicles were impounded for various offences across the metro. Owners or authorised representatives must settle all outstanding fees (impoundment, towing, storage, administrative and related costs) before vehicles can be released.

Motorists must also provide proof of ownership, like vehicle registration documents, a valid ID and, when applicable, authorisation letters for collectors.

The city cautions that vehicles not collected after the stipulated period could be sold to recover costs.

This would take place under the National Road Traffic Act 1996 (Act 93 of 1996) and Regulation 320 of the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2000, which allow municipalities to sell vehicles unclaimed for more than 120 days.

Vehicles can be collected from these EMPD pounds:
• Alberton Pound: 4 Swaartkoppies Road, General Alberts Park,
• Boksburg Pound: 43 Reservoir Road

Boksburg;
• Brakpan Pound: 212 Short Street,

Rand Collieries, Brakpan;
• Kempton Park Pound: 1 Sarel and Albatross streets, Kempton Park.
The EMPD encourages those affected to use the collection period to avoid financial loss.
