Tsakani – Mega Primary School educators, Siyabulela Motloung and Winny Malaza, gathered learners to conduct a small door-to-door awareness campaign, emphasising the importance of Freedom Day and other revolutionary public holidays.

This initiative was carried out within the school on April 28 and encouraged learners to present their pieces of writing, highlighting and embracing Freedom Day and many other upcoming public holidays.

“Learners presented their artwork, speeches and posters where they expressed what they know about Freedom Day and other public holidays.

“They gathered knowledge through research.

“The purpose of the awareness was to integrate the learners with the past struggle, mainly focusing on how it came about that Freedom Day was officially declared a public holiday,” said Motloung.

“We further wanted to instil appreciation of the present privileges that South African people have today.”

Many learners became excited and interested in knowing more about Youth Day and they are looking forward to celebrating the public holiday with their families and sharing the experience with their peers.
