EMPD arrests man with unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Tsakani stop-and-search operation
A 29-year-old was arrested after EMPD officers found an unlicensed firearm and 35 rounds of live ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in Tsakani.
Tsakani – The EMPD arrested a 29-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in the Tsakani area.
According to the EMPD, officers from the Intervention and Community Liaison Unit stopped a white Volkswagen Golf 7 with a single occupant while conducting the operation.
“The driver was requested to produce a valid driver’s licence but was unable to do so. Officers requested permission to search both the driver and the vehicle and consent was granted,” the EMPD said.
During the search, officers recovered a black 9mm Norinco firearm tucked into the suspect’s waistband.

“The firearm contained a magazine loaded with 14 rounds of live ammunition.
“A further search resulted in the recovery of an additional 21 rounds of live ammunition from the pocket of the suspect’s jacket,” the EMPD said.
The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition. He is expected to appear before the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court soon.
