Tsakani – What began with a mother’s old furniture and an unwavering belief in a dream has grown into one of the township’s most inspiring stories of resilience, entrepreneurship and community impact.

Bonisile Xaba founded BonFire Eats, an establishment proving that success is not determined by where you start, but by the courage to keep going.

Born and raised in Kwa-Thema before making Tsakani her home, Xaba discovered her passion for cooking at the age of nine.

Inspired by her mother and late grandmother, she learned that food is more than something to eat, it is an expression of love, care and connection.

Those early lessons would later become the foundation of a business that now serves not only delicious meals but also hope to the community.

In March 2020, during one of the most uncertain periods in recent history, Xaba made a life-changing decision.

With no investors or financial backing, she sold her mother’s old headboard, dressing table and room divider to raise enough money to buy ingredients and begin cooking for customers.

“It was a bold step driven by faith and determination,” she said.

Her gamble quickly paid off as customers embraced her food and orders began to grow, leading to the birth of her business.

Like many small businesses, however, the road to success was not without obstacles. Personal challenges eventually forced her to close the business.

Rather than allowing the setback to define her journey, Xaba used it as motivation to rebuild. In December 2023, she re-launched BonFire Eats with renewed purpose and a vision that stretched far beyond serving quality food.

“My mission became creating opportunities, inspiring others to believe in themselves and showing that resilience is often the greatest ingredient for success,” she said.

Today, BonFire Eats continues to celebrate milestones that reflect years of perseverance, sacrifice and hard work. Every meal served represents more than exceptional flavour.

It tells the story of late nights, early mornings, difficult decisions and an unwavering commitment to achieving her dream.

Her business has become a symbol of what is possible when passion meets persistence, inspiring aspiring entrepreneurs to believe that every successful business begins with one courageous decision.
