The Gauteng Department of Social Development has issued a call for qualifying non-profit organisations (NPOs) to partner with the department to address pressing social challenges across the province.

The call invites proposals for a three-year funding cycle spanning the 2027/28 to 2029/30 financial years.
Departmental support will remain subject to compliance with service level agreements entered into between successful NPOs and the government.

The department is seeking proposals that align directly with its broader welfare, protection and community development mandate.

Interventions covered in the call include social welfare services for families, persons with disabilities, older persons, homeless individuals and HIV/Aids care.

The initiative also targets protection services such as childcare, substance abuse programmes, crime prevention and victim empowerment.

To foster community development, the department is seeking proposals focused on youth development, welfare-to-work initiatives, skills development, community nutrition and projects promoting self-reliance.

Gauteng MEC for Social Development Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko stated that there is clear space for organisations already doing meaningful work aligned with departmental priorities.

She encouraged collaboration over competition, urging NPOs to build networks, share resources and create practical partnerships to tackle interconnected social issues across the province.

Financial allocation comes with strict compliance and operational standards.

“Applying organisations must be properly registered and fully compliant with all relevant legislation while demonstrating the capacity to deliver proposed projects sustainably,” said Nkomo-Ralehoko.

“For skills development initiatives, NPOs must provide clear pathways for beneficiaries leading to employment, entrepreneurship or economic participation.

“Furthermore, governing structures and staff must be vetted against both the National Sex Offenders Register and the Child Protection Register,” said Nkomo-Ralehoko.

Interested organisations must complete the prescribed departmental application process and submit their full proposals via email to NPOApplications.Socdev@gauteng.gov.za

The closing date for submissions is September 30 at midnight. Late, incomplete or incorrectly submitted applications will not be considered.
