Choosing the healthier option

At times we find ourselves so flooded with things do in order to ensure balance in our daily lives that it is easy to neglect ourselves and especially our health.

Some of us juggle households, education, work, social life, children and religious matters, among others, so that we find ourselves putting everything and everyone first and we end up relegating our health to the back seat.

By the time we do realise this and want to make the necessary changes, it is normally too late.

When you are always on the road or find yourself getting home late daily, the quickest option is normally to grab a quick bite to eat on the road, which in most cases is your fast food laden with grease, sugar and salt.

But how does this affect our health in the long run?

Well, our unhealthy habits, coupled with a lack of exercise, tends to be what causes prominent illnesses such as sugar diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes and obesity, among other things.

And if you are going to live off takeaways, it is not only costly, but affects your health because it is very rare to find healthy fast food in our townships.

In addition to that, most of the time if the cheapest option of fast food you can find is the greasy kind which is normally accompanied by fizzy drinks, that is what you end up consuming.

If you are starting to wonder how your choices are affecting your health, it is not too late to start making the changes.

We can do this just by starting with a few steps of walking, drinking water and choosing healthier food options which don’t have to take time to prepare at home.

If you feel as though buying vegetables is going to be costly for you daily, weekly or monthly, you can start small by creating your own food garden at home, which will help you and your family be healthier and save you cash.

We can also start living a healthier lifestyle by including more fruits and vegetables daily, getting enough sleep, exercising, eating smaller meals, avoiding or cutting down on alcohol intake, stopping smoking, starting to eat healthy snacks and avoiding stress.

Life should not consume us so much that we find something as simple as fitting in a minor 30 minutes of exercise or even time to complete a full home-cooked meal seem like mission impossible or an uphill battle.

So start today by making the necessary changes, as you don’t have much to lose.
