When I talk about reading, this does not just relate to heading off to the library for hours but it could just be as simple as grabbing a book, magazine or newspaper to read for pleasure or information.
But instead we see the favoured option by most young people today seems to be watching television, addiction to social media and being glued to television games.
What then happens to the art and culture of reading which seems to have taken a backseat and no longer stands out to the youth of today?
Maybe it is high time that the youth is reminded that the more you devote your time to reading, the better your reading and writing skills become.
Reading exercises your brain, you get better at it over time, it helps you to improve your concentration skills and teaches you about the world around you.
This also introduces you to a world of using your imagination, enhancing your vocabulary and spelling.
So instead of just sitting in front of the television for hours, why not just dedicate 30 minutes or an hour of your time each day to read a magazine or your favourite book or set a target for yourself on how many pages you should get through in a day.
And if you are more technology savvy but still want to read but feel that the old fashioned way of grabbing a book or newspaper to get motivated or informed is not for you, then you can always get your content from newspaper websites or online books.
Through reading you will be able to expose yourself to new things in life, you are able to improve yourself, increase your knowledge and understanding, gain communication tools from other people you may not even know and it will also boost your imagination and creativity.
Let’s face it, when all is said and done or maybe you find yourself having lost your worldly goods, no one can take your knowledge, education or skill away from you.
And though you may not know it, reading something may seem minimal now but later it might help to equip you with future tools or keep you motivated to reaching that goal you are on your way to achieving.
