Lesedi Mokoena (30) spent his Sunday afternoon at the KwaThema Sports Complex preparing for a Monday game at the Heidelberg Golf Club.
The game was a competition between golfers from the Springs, Brakpan and Nigel areas, and Lesedi managed a position six from 12 players.
It’s one of his first games in a competitive environment, since his return to the game after a three-year break.
He said with his new drive, vision and determination he is confident he will do well in the upcoming Siphiwe Nyanda Golf Championship in Swaziland next month.
“This is one of the big tournaments I will use to get back into professional golf, and the R100 000 cash prize which will be divided amongst the top 20 players, is enticing,” said Lesedi.
He has been involved with golf since he was 10 years old, and both his brother and sister play professional golf, after being introduced to the sport by their father.
“My first break in golf came when I was selected to be part of the East Rand Golf Trust Development Programme, where I ended up as part of the team which won Eastern Gauteng Junior Club Championships,” he said.
Lesedi adds that being mentored by golfers such as Louis Malaka really opened doors for him and assisted him to be part of the U/23 Gauteng provincial team and the South African President’s Team.
