Orlando Pirates supporters celebrate soccer legend

A former Orlando Pirates player was honoured on Sunday.

Milton Nkosi (58) from KwaThema who now resides in Payneville and played for the Orlando Pirates during the 1970s, was honoured by the soccer legends and the Orlando Pirates supporters while also celebrating his birthday.

The event was held at Nkosi’s home in Payneville.

Nkosi stopped playing for the Orlando Pirates in 1978 after he was seriously injured when his team was playing in Durban against the Golden Arrows.

According to Jimmy Mahlangu, a former Moroka Swallows player, Nkosi played a big role in the development of sport in the townships.

He said Nkosi is one of the soccer legends who encouraged the young players, including him, in the township to play soccer until they played on a professional level.

“The legends need to be recognised about the good work that they have done for this country,” said Mahlangu.

“This is the day that will forever live in my mind,” said an excited Nkosi.

He thanked the Langaville Orlando Pirates supporters’ branch, Kaizer Chiefs supporters and the South African Masters Legend Football Association for honouring him and celebrating the role that he played in soccer.
