KwaThema Disability Club has a new academy

KwaThema - The KwaThema Disability Club has started a new academy to keep sport alive in the township.

The KwaThema Disability Sports Academy has been in existence for four months and aims to provide a platform for disabled athletes.

According to one of the founders of the academy and the club’s chairman, Aubrey Mathibela, the academy has about 43 registered athletes.

He says it is the club’s dream to double this figure in the next few months.

Mathibela explains that athletes from the academy have performed well in various sports over the past four months.

He says Tshepo Bebe (23) and Tshepang Joubert (25) from the academy will be taking part in the All Africa Games to be held in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on September 4, and Nthabiseng Phala (25) and Zandile Nhlapho (30) have been selected to be in the South African Wheelchair Tennis development squad.

Mathibela says the club is working hard to ensure it produces athletes who will one day represent the country.

“It is our wish to see our athletes representing the country in major sports tournaments in the next few years,” says Mathibela.
