Karate used to combat social ills
Tsakane - Ferkkands Karate Club showcased their fighting skills during the Karate Development Tournament held in Sebokeng last week.
The group represented Kwatsaduza in kumite and kata demonstrations.
Instructor Linda Ngubane (44) says he is proud of the team.
“Ntokozo Ngubane (14) represented the ladies in the kata demonstration and obtained position one.

“Mathapelo Sibeko (15) and Ntokozo Ngubane represented the team in the senior ladies’ section.
“The two were able to fight their opponents to the point that Mathapelo and Ntokozo ended up facing each other in the ring.
“Mathapelo won the first prize while Ntokozo came second runner-up in kumite,” he says.
Linda says Kamogelo Nyetsi (13) obtained position one in kumite with two knock-outs in the tournament.
“Ntomifuthi Miya (12) obtained position three in the junior challenge,” he says.
Linda says the group was formed three years ago with the aim of fighting drug addiction and crime in the community.
“It was a painful sight to see a lot of young people throwing their lives away because of their addiction.

“We believe that many decided to take drugs because they have a lot of time on their hands after school and on weekends,” he says.
Linda says they are calling on local businessmen to adopt sports initiatives in their communities.
“We need the support of everyone in the community. These children are the future of the country and if we don’t take care of them, the future is doomed.”
