Pretoria – Every year young professional soccer hopefuls meet in Queenswood to compete in the Sundowns trials.
On Tuesday, more than 400 boys from all over the country assembled at Clapham High School for a chance to be signed by soccer giant’s Sundowns Football Club.
“I always encourage the boys to make the best of this opportunity. Even if they don’t get selected, the experience of playing at this level will be beneficial to them when we get back home,” explains Innocent Mayoyo, founder of Ayoba Yo Academy in KwaThema.
Fortunately, this year three boys have been from KwaThema.
“I am proud to confirm that Boitomelo “Mercy” Kupa, Gomolemo “Inniesta” Nyaku and Banele “Barnes” Zwane from Ayoba Yo are now part of the Sundowns Juniors.”
Boitumelo Kupa will be absorbed into the u-13 division with the other two boys playing in the u-11 division.
“Mercy will actually start attending at Clapham when schools reopen. But the u-11s will attend the Sunday programme of the club.”
Mayoyo says that this is an amazing opportunity for the boys and he hopes they will make the best of it.
He believes that they are reaching milestones that he has always dreamt of.
“This is why I started the academy, to give talented boys the opportunity to be great. People can live good lives from playing professional soccer.”
Nelson ‘Teenage’ Dladla, another one of KwaThema’s finest soccer legends says he lends this support to the boys and looks forward to more talent being unearthed in Kwatsaduza.
Dladla was roped in by Patrice Motsepe in 2014 to strengthen the junior structures of the club.
