Sports clinic encouraging children living with disabilities to stay healthy

The aim of the initiative was to educate the children about professional sport, health and fitness.

KwaThema – The Gauteng Sports Academy hosted a sports performance clinic for children living with disabilities in Germiston.

The aim of the initiative was to educate the children about professional sport, health and fitness.

The children were also taught about the importance of teamwork, how to prevent injuries, and how they can conquer the challenges brought on by living with their disability.

Coach Aubrey Mathibela from KwaThema Disabled Sports Club says many people develop better self-discipline, better organisational skills and get a sense of responsibility when they take part in sports.

“Such initiatives boost children’s morale, they learn new skills, leadership and they get valuable information,” says Mathibela.

The children also get to improve their overall health because they keep fit and healthy.

They also get to socialise with other children, building their social skills and confidence to engage with other people.

It will also help them gain the confidence to compete on provincial, national and international levels.
