Bigger Walker boxers bring home medals

Bigger Walker Boxing Club walked away with four medals from provincial champs

Tsakane – Last Saturday, the Bigger Walker Boxing Club took part in the Gauteng School Age and Junior Championships.

Charles Mtshali, founder of the club, says his boxers are making progress with every competition they participate in.

“The young boys are really coming along well,” says Mtshali.

The best result for the club came from 14-year-old Motlatsi Mosieleng who won a gold medal in the 36 to 37.5kg category.

“I am so happy.

“In the first round I was able to see how my opponent was fighting and I realised what I could do to beat him,” Mosieleng says.

Mosieleng fought against teammate Thulani Constabul, who won the silver medal.

Junior Constabul (12) received a silver medal for his efforts in the 30 to 32kg category.

Banele Tilo also received silver in the 32 to 36kg category.

“They make me proud to be their coach.

“I wish we could take part in more competitions,” says Mtshali.

He says their main challenge is transportation to and from games.

“Most of my athletes cannot afford to pay for transport, so I have to find a way to get them there.

“Sometimes we have two competitions in one month and we miss one because we don’t have money to get there.

“I would like to appeal to business people in the community to assist us in this regard.”

The Bigger Walker Boxing Club is inviting young people to join the club.

Motlatsi Mosieleng, Junior Constabul, Thulani Contsabul and Banele Tilo won medals at the Gauteng School Age and Junior Championships in Sebokeng, with coach Charles Mtshali.
