How to reduce your water usage in five, easy steps
Adopt these clever water conservation habits to reduce your home’s usage.
Educating yourself and your family about the amount of water being used at home on a daily basis is crucial in becoming more water conscious. Especially when parts of the country are experiencing severe drought conditions. Infact, Agri SA stated that farmers from all three Cape provinces are experiencing the worst drought in the last 100 years! Now is the time to start making lifestyle changes to help conserve water with these easy steps from Organico.
- Regularly inspect your home’s water infrastructure to make sure there are no leaks.
- Only open the tap when you need water – don’t let it run while you are brushing your teeth or washing your face.
- Flushing the toilet uses a lot of water and thanks to Organico’s alternative odour reducing toilet flushing solution, you don’t need to flush after every go. The specially designed formula contains only natural enzymes, micro-organisms and bacteria that break down human waste, prevents spread of disease and leaves toilets smelling fresh and isn’t harmful to people, animals, plantlife or the environment.
- Collect greywater by simply putting a bucket in the shower and use it to water the garden, if it isn’t too soapy, or wash cars. Do not keep greywater for more than 24 hours as it will begin to smell.
- If you don’t already collect rainwater in tanks, simply put out a bucket under a gutter drainpipe and catch the otherwise wasted water. Rainwater is cleaner than greywater and does not contain any soap products, so you can use it to wash your pets or even use it as a backup to wash dishes, windows or floors. Fill up your pool by connecting pipes to the ends of the drainpipes and let it flow directly into your pool.
