Jealous Down FC beats TP Football 2-0 in league clash

Jealous Down FC secured a 2-0 win over TP Football at Kwa-Thema Sports Complex on Sunday with coach Richard Makhubo praising his team’s tactical discipline.

Kwa-Thema – Footballers gathered to take part in action-packed games at Kwa-Thema Sports Complex on Sunday as the Springs Local Football Association Super League continued.

In one of the fixtures, Jealous Down FC claimed a convincing 2-0 victory over TP Football. Lesego Gumede opened the scoring before Bandile Mathe added the second goal to seal the win.

Jealous Down coach Richard ‘Coach Voom’ Makhubo said tactical decisions and team work secured their victory.

“We knew the team we were playing against was aggressive and hungry to win the game so our approach was to come as hard as we can, press them and punish when we get the ball,” he said.

Makhubo said the team did not keep the same momentum throughout the game.

“During the first half, we managed to have some touches, we played well but struggled in the second half. We were disciplined in our position and we defended well,” Makhubo said.

He talked about their current position in the league.

“We’ve dropped points in the league so now we are just playing to improve players so they can go to our SAB team. I’m playing with a young squad which I’m trying to groom,” he said.

TP Football coach Gift Hlatshwayo says the team delivered a mediocre performance.

“We couldn’t stick to the plan in terms of our work rate and tactical discipline.

“There is growth but there’s a bit of inconsistency in terms of keeping the level of football that we produce weekly,” he said.

Hlatshwayo said going forward, his team will focus on improving their defence.

“In some games, we lack intensity, drive and aggression. In today’s game the problem was defence, there was no fire power,” he said.
