Chiefs Ladies held to goalless draw by Wits University in Sasol League clash
Kaizer Chiefs Ladies and Wits University played to a goalless draw at Tsakani Stadium in a tightly contested Sasol Women’s League encounter.
Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, formerly known as Springs Sweepers, went head-to-head with Wits University on June 7 at Tsakani Stadium in the Sasol Women’s League.
They shared the spoils after playing to a goalless draw.
Speaking to the African Reporter, Chiefs’ captain Boitumelo Mokoena said she was proud of her team’s performance.
Despite a goalless draw, she said that both teams showed resilience on the pitch and added that her team created goal-scoring opportunities.

“In the first half, we had full control of the game, but unfortunately were unable to score. I feel like we rushed the games at times,” explained the captain.
Kaizer Chiefs Ladies then played Emmarentia Pirates on June 6, securing a 1-1 draw. Mokoena said the team’s defence is good and the problem lies when they have to score.
She emphasised that this should be the team’s last draw and the next game is a must-win as they aim to win the league.
Wits University’s assistant coach Nonkosi Twayise praised her side’s character after they earned a hard-fought point.

From the outset, the coach acknowledged the challenge of the fixture, pointing to both the quality of the opposition and the atmosphere surrounding the match.
“We knew that it was going to be a tough one. It’s never easy coming to play here.”
She added that the Chiefs’ attacking intent and home advantage made preparation important for his squad.
Despite that, Wits stuck to their approach and made tactical adjustments to contain the hosts.

“We tweaked our formation a bit. We knew Chiefs were going to come down in the centre and we managed to close them down,” explained Twayise.
She admitted frustration in front of the goal, saying missed chances prevented a better result.
“Obviously, we need to score and go back to winning our games,” said Twayise.
Wits leave with a point as they lead on the log, but also with clear lessons as they continue their campaign.
