Tsakani CPF issues hijacking warning and shares safety tips for motorists
The Tsakani CPF has urged motorists to remain vigilant and follow essential safety measures as police investigate a rise in vehicle hijackings across the township.
Tsakani – The Tsakani CPF has warned residents to be extra vigilant following an increase in vehicle hijackings reported across the township.
Tsakani CPF chairperson Mncedisi Somyo said the police are currently investigating several hijacking cases and are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.
“There are a number of hijacking cases that the station is currently working hard to resolve.
“We are appealing to residents to remain alert and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves,” said Somyo.
He urged motorists not to become complacent, even when travelling in familiar areas, as criminals often take advantage of predictable routines and moments of distraction.
Somyo encouraged residents to report any suspicious people, vehicles or criminal activity to the police or the CPF, adding that community co-operation plays a vital role in fighting crime.
“We all have a responsibility to help keep our community safe. By remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities, we can assist law enforcement in preventing crime and apprehending suspects,” he said.

Hijacking prevention tips:
Always be aware of your surroundings while driving and when arriving at or leaving your destination.
Keep your vehicle doors locked and windows closed, especially when stopping at traffic lights or intersections.
Avoid distractions such as using your cellphone while driving or when stationary. Leave enough space between your vehicle and the one in front of you to allow for a quick escape if necessary.
Be cautious if you notice a vehicle following you for an extended period. Rather drive to the nearest police station or a busy public area instead of going home.
Avoid displaying valuables such as laptops, handbags or cellphones where they are visible from outside the vehicle.
Plan your route in advance and avoid isolated roads, particularly at night.
If approached by hijackers, prioritise your life over your belongings and avoid resisting if doing so would put you in greater danger. Report all suspicious activity and hijacking incidents to the police immediately.
