Mayberry Park darts star off to DSA National Champs in Bloemfontein

In June, Liam Vorster will represent Gauteng at the Darts South Africa National Tournament.

Alberton High learner Liam Vorster is a 15-year-old living in Mayberry Park who was selected to represent Gauteng at the Darts South Africa National Tournament in Bloemfontein.

He not only gained an opportunity to be in the Gauteng Darts Federation’s youth team after stellar performances in the junior section but will also represent Gauteng at the Bloemfontein event from June 22 to 30.

The tournament started with the players competing in the trials for two consecutive weekends. The competition was professional, and he competed against strong contenders, but Vorster pulled it off with an amazing performance.

This young star gained his Gauteng colours at 15 due to his dedication, hard work, determination, training, and perseverance.

“I am super proud of Liam. His dedication to the sport of darts is the reason he made it to the Gauteng junior team that will go to the nationals in Bloemfontein. From day one, he has followed and taken every aspect of the game to heart, and this is full credit to him as a student of darts. He is still new in the game and has no doubt. As long as he stays grounded and humble, he will have a huge future in darts,” said his coach, Shawn Hogan.

“An indescribable joy filled me when Liam was selected for the Gauteng nationals team. He achieved something remarkable with determination, and commitment, at only 15 years old,” said his mother, Natasha Vorster.

“We were filled with emotions and immense pride that engulfed us during this unforgettable moment. It was an exhilarating experience witnessing Liam stay focused and in control of this mentally draining and challenging sport.

“Hours of competition, game after game, he remained strong proud and humble at all times. He portrayed the etiquette of the game and its rules. All while exceeding all expectations,” she said.

Vorster started playing darts last year at 14 with his dad, Alwyn Vorster, for fun and fell in love with the sport. The young man has achieved much since then, and with his dream of becoming a Protea player, he is working hard to achieve his goal.

“Liam has started a Back-A-Buddy account to raise funds for his tour and asks for your support to achieve his goals and dreams.

“The funds raised will be used for eight days’ accommodation, transport, a blazer and uniform, meals, and darts equipment. Your help in supporting Liam with a sponsorship will be greatly appreciated,” said his mother.
