WATCH: SAPS confirms three suspects fatally wounded in Alrode shootout

SAPS has confirmed that three suspects were fatally wounded in a shootout with police on Vereeniging Road in Alrode on August 20 afternoon, with three firearms, suspected stolen cash and false registration plates recovered.

SAPS has now confirmed that three suspects were fatally wounded in a shootout with police on Vereeniging Road in Alrode on Thursday afternoon, August 20.

The latest statement from the SAPS Gauteng Provincial Commissioner provides further details following the incident that closed Vereeniging Road while police attended the scene.

According to SAPS, the incident followed a robbery in which a man was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money while entering his residence.

A lookout was then activated for the suspects’ vehicle.

Members of the Tactical Response Team later spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it. SAPS said the occupants then opened fire at police, who retaliated and called for backup.

The Gauteng Traffic Airwing, CAP Security and Tracker Connect security teams responded to assist police.

All three suspects travelling in the vehicle were fatally wounded and were declared dead at the scene.
Police also made several recoveries following the shootout.

According to SAPS, three firearms were recovered, with two of the firearms having their serial numbers filed off. Police also recovered money suspected to have been stolen during the robbery.

“The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing for further investigations,” SAPS said.
