Beggar’s day made

He was very happy and could not stop smiling.

HIS name is Thaba Gadebe and he is 19 years old. He spends his days begging at the three-way intersection of Swartkoppies Road, where the Alrode and Mayberry Park slipway is. At night he sleeps underneath a nearby tree since he is homeless and hopeless. On August 19, a published article titled Poverty made him faithless.

The article touched an Alberton resident’s (who wishes to remain anonymous) heart very deeply. She soon responded to the article, offering to donate clothes, a few food items, soap, a towel and a few other basic necessities. She said: “It brought me to tears when I read how hopeless Thaba felt because he has nothing – not even an ID book. I know how he feels and it’s an awful feeling. I grew up very poor and in an orphanage. I empathise with him and I just had to help him.”

As the RECORD gave the donations to Thaba, he was very happy and could not stop smiling. After giving thanks, he quickly rushed to his sleeping spot and hid it away nice and safe.

It was noticeable that he had an extra spring in his step and that his day had been made!

Perhaps you can make someone’s day today by giving them a fruit or vegetable to eat as you pass them by or even just a friendly smile or wave. It’s kind-heartedness like this that brings hope to the world, even in awful circumstances.
