GALLERY: Drummies pull out all the stops

A fun-filled fund-raiser helps the Grace Trinity drum majorettes get to nationals.

THERE was plenty of laughter, smiles and camaraderie at the Grace Trinity School for Girls’ drum majorettes’ fund-raising lunch, which was held at Hattingh Park last Sunday.

The event was aimed at helping the school’s high and primary school drum majorettes raise money to attend and compete in the South African National Championships, which will be held in Oudtshoorn from July 1 to 8.

Drum majorettes began at Grace Trinity in 2014 in the primary school.

The school started competing in the President’s League in 2015 and achieved the first place at the South African National Championships.

The primary school was then promoted to the Elite League.

The high school competed for the first time in the President’s League in 2016 and achieved second place at the South African National Championships.

In the 2018 majorette season, both the primary and the high schools will be competing in the Elite League.

Guests at the fund-raiser entered a beautifully decorated hall before enjoying a traditional three-course Portuguese lunch.

Fun, in the form of bingo, music and of course socialising, was the order of the day.

A raffle was also held which saw guests stand a chance of winning wonderful prizes.

Kelly Belman and Tammy and Stella-Jay (5) Pepper were among the guests who enjoyed the Grace Trinity School for Girls’ drum majorettes’ fund-raising lunch held at Hattingh Park last Sunday.

The funds raised at the event will help to pay for competition fees, uniforms, accommodation, three healthy meals a day, as well as snacks throughout the day and transport.

“We were very pleased with the day’s turnout and were so pleased we were able to raise some funds,” said Zia De Araujo, on behalf of Grace Trinity. The event raised R37 000, of which R21 000 was profit. “A huge thank you goes to all the organisers and those who contributed to the event,” said Claudio De Abreu. The school is also looking for sponsorship for tracksuits, T-shirts, sweatshirts and kit bags.
