Simmer and Jack landfill site in Germiston temporarily closed due to fire

The Simmer and Jack landfill site has been temporarily closed until further notice after a fire broke out on Tuesday, September 8.

Residents are requested to use alternative landfill sites to dispose their waste, while City officials are conducting an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

No injuries or fatalities occurred on site.

“We have resolved to close off the landfill site from public use to allow disaster and emergency services work to continue uninterrupted. Also, we are closing the facility to allow investigation to take place,” Divisional Head of Waste Management Services said.
