Four arrested for illegal mining

Alberton SAPS teamed up with other law-enforcement departments on October 9 to conduct an operation in the Alberton area.

“The reason for the operation was to root out criminals who were performing unlawful activities in the area,” said Capt Manara Ramotshela, the spokesperson of Alberton SAPS.

Officers arrested four suspects who are illegal miners and recovered illegal substances.

“The suspects were working underground and some are not South African citizens. A case of illegal mining was opened at the Alberton SAPS.

“They are being detained at Alberton SAPS and will appear in court soon. Management of the Alberton SAPS thanks everyone affiliated in the operation,¨ said Ramotshela.
