Ward 38 clean-up project at Jackson Dam
She also said that it is going to take another day before it's completely cleaned up.
Residents from Ward 38 came together on November 14 to help clean up the Jackson Dam.
“If parents just knew how much-broken glass we picked up today I’m sure they would be very worried letting their children run around. Today was a shocker for me.
“For a dam, which is an alcohol-free zone, we picked up bags and bags of empty alcohol bottles, stompies, paper, dirty nappies and wet wipes, empty drug packets, used condoms, hubbly, and I can go on and on,” said Chantell Habib, organiser.
Volunteers also cleaned a lot of rubbish out of the dam.
According to Chantelle, it is sad to see the Jackson Dam in such a state.
“This is a free park for our residents to go and fish, take our children out to play, braai, have parties at your own leisure and this is how we look after it.”
She also said it is going to take another day before its completely cleaned up.
“Thank you to all who came and helped us today we appreciate you so much. A special thank you to Mark O’Halloran who has been living in Brackenhurst all his life. Thank you Dominic, he has been at every ward clean up so far and doing this for our community free of charge. He works at the Bracken Library as a car guard for tips only,” she concluded.
