A local option for a special needs pre-school
It's with great excitement that Cresco Preschool and Aftercare welcomed their first learner in their brand new special needs section.
Cresco Preschool and Aftercare recently welcomed their first learner to their new special needs class.
For the school, this is very exciting and they are looking forward to welcoming even more learners who need such facilities to their school.
“There is no question that a special needs class is needed in the community,” said Cresco owner Bevan Davis. “We are trying to provide what the community needs.”
Cresco has facilities available for a total of 15 learners with special needs with teachers who are trained to provide for them. An added benefit of the school’s facilities is that they have both facilities for special needs and mainstream learners, which offers the opportunity for learners from both spheres to interact with each other and develop understanding and social skills.
Cresco’s principal, Zantelle Odendaal, expressed her excitement to have the new learners in the school. This sentiment was echoed by Nelly Gqoli, a special needs teacher at the school.
“I can’t wait to have more learners in my class,” said Nelly.
The school prides itself on the facilities available to the new learners with a specialised class and playground for them as well as on-site facilities for therapy sessions.
Added to this they want to assure parents they take great care in the safety of their learners, especially with potential co-morbidities. The school boasts a spotless Covid record.
Focus is also placed on the family aspect of their learners with special needs with assistance such as counselling provided by the school.
“We are very glad to say we have a place for special needs learners,” said Zantelle. “Everything we do is to help the children.”
