SAPS warns of criminal trend

SAPS Ekurhuleni district commissioner Maj-Gen Anna Mateisi has advised motorist to be vigilant, especially with the new trend where criminals use vehicles with police blue lights to hijack motorists.
“Let’s take care of ourselves, there’s a lot of crime taking place. Let’s make sure when we drive our vehicles, especially during early hours in the morning, to practise vigilance. We have a problem of people who are pretending to be law enforcers only to hijack them,” she said.
Should a motorist feel unsafe, she advised they drive to their nearest filling or police station to avoid being victimised.
Mateisi also strongly advised community members to adhere to health regulations amid the pandemic.
“We must not forget that the pandemic is still a challenge, so let’s adhere to the Covid-19 protocols and Disaster Management Act. Let’s make sure we take care of ourselves and keep safe,” she said.
She encouraged the community to report any criminal elements taking place in the communities.
