Alberton Record newspaper of 1995 found in resident’s ceiling
A Brackenhurst resident who recently started renovations at her home came across two packets of old Alberton Record newspapers in the ceiling of her garage.
The newspapers are dated June 22, 1995, and still in its original packaging.
“I found this very interesting and would love to know the history behind it. I mean, who left it in our roof?” said Natashca Serioli.
The newspapers are the issue just before the 1995 Rugby World Cup against New Zealand.
In this issue of 26 years ago, there are some interesting news articles mostly about the Rugby World Cup, but also about Mr and Mrs Thompson’s marriage, school achievements, Father’s Day messages, a crime-free week for Alberton, development of the Newmarket Kleinhoewes and much more.
The newspaper still has all the advertisements and special catalogues in.
“It was so interesting to see what we paid for goods back then. I was only in matric when the newspaper was released,” said Natashca.
The two packets of newspapers are available for those interested.
“This must have some value to some residents.”
