Locals to be honoured as part of Mandela Day celebration

As part of observing International Mandela Day, Ward 38 councillor Malcolm Maifala-Masebe will honour 10 members of the community on July 24.

In light of Mandela Day, Ward 38 councillor Malcolm Maifala-Masebe will on July 24 announce 10 ward champions.

This is part of the My Ward 38 Community Champion initiative which was launched by Maifala-Masebe on July 18.

Launched in line with Mandela Day, it has seen more than 30 members of the community honoured for going above and beyond the call of duty to help the community at large.

From the first month of calling for nominations, he said the community has played a huge role in honouring other community members for giving their time to make life better for others.

“Seeing that we are encouraged to make every day a Mandela Day through the International Nelson Mandela Day initiative, I too believe we need to honour those who give their time, energy and resources in adding value to the community,” said Maifala-Masebe.

As the first year of this comes to an end, he will be honouring 10 members of the community who continuously selflessly give of themselves to build a better community for all.

“The 10 members of the community who have played a part in improving the lives of others will be honoured via a Zoom presentation. It will be broadcast live on Facebook page Ekurhuleni Ward 38 Community on July 24 at 18:00,” he said.
