WATCH: JIWA donate to senior citizens

Excitement for Moffat View Old Age Home as they receive food parcels.

Johannesburg Indian Women Association (JIWA) in conjunction with Turffontein’s Christway Religious and Social Services donated 150 boxes of food parcels at Moffat View Old Age Home on September 16.

Elize Baker, the founder of Christway, said they work with JIWA to identify and give people food in Johannesburg.

“Today they have prepared 150 food parcels for Moffat View Old Age Home residents. We also go as far as other areas like Eldorado Park, Jeppestown and any other old age homes,” she said.

The general secretary of JIWA, Priya Raj, said they are a group of 32 women who do a lot of activities in helping others.

“We started more than 14 years ago and in the past two years since Covid-19 started, we’ve been doing food and blanket drives to help where we can.

“We are grateful to the donors and sponsors that have been supporting us throughout, we appreciate their kind gesture. So people can join us on our next event, Diwali,” explained Raj.

JIWA is a voluntary, registered non-profit charitable organisation. It consists of members who generously donate their time, effort and money to the organisation and its chosen initiatives.

JIWA’s work is made possible thanks to corporate donations and private sponsorships. It believes that a single action can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world.

Through advocacy and outreach activities, the JIWA members work tirelessly each day to contribute their part to the greater good.

Willy Jacobs, a resident from Moffat View Old Age Home, said the senior citizens were blessed by JIWA and Christway who brought boxes of much-needed groceries.

“The senior citizens were very excited and some were even seen in tears. On behalf of all the senior citizens of Moffat View Old Age Village, I want to thank them for blessing us. May God fill their storerooms so that there’ll be enough to give to more needy persons. God bless,” he said.
