Help needed to give Parklands High a facelift

Locals are inviting the community to be part of an initiative to help plant a veggie garden and to clean up Parklands High School on March 12.

Volunteers and sponsors are needed in planting a vegetable garden and cleaning up the sports field and pavilions at Parklands High School on March 12.

This will be made possible through a clean-up initiative introduced by Ward 37 councillor Ivan Naidoo alongside organisers.

This comes after a team of property agents recently joined the councillor and volunteers to clean up Alberton Cemetery.

Organiser Dorene van Tonder said they were working together to improve the community for all residents and the children.

“Let us stand together as a community and make a difference. The clean-up is just the beginning. This school needs a lot more. Please bring your own gardening tools and refuse bags along. We need as many volunteers on the day as possible,” she said.

She said Lasher has sponsored a wheelbarrow and spades, rakes and brooms, five of each, for their clean-up projects in Alberton.

“We need sponsorship of green palisade fence paint and application materials. The same paint will be used to paint the pavilion. We need black refuse bags, a petrol lawnmower, bush cutter, white chalk to mark the soccer field, white paint to mark the netball field and eight netball hoops,” said van Tonder.

Items to be planted in the veggie garden include carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, lettuce and mielies.
