Ekurhuleni initiates disaster relief campaign to aid KZN

The City of Ekurhuleni will e assisting families affected by the recent floods.

The City of Ekurhuleni has established the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Disaster Relief Initiative to aid families who have been affected by the province’s recent floods.

This follows the cabinet’s decision of declaring the National State of Disaster in response to the floods that left families homeless and impoverished.

The city pleads with its residents to donate non-perishable food, clothes or blankets to the most vulnerable.

The campaign will operate for two weeks, then the donations will be couriered to KZN where they will be distributed by an NGO.

According to Zweli Dlamini, metro spokesperson, an announcement of the total contributions received will be made at the end of the campaign to ensure transparency and accountability.

“The city remains committed to leading humanitarian efforts to ease the effects of national disasters on families,” said Dlamini.

Donations can be dropped off at:

• Customer care centres

• OR Tambo government precinct civic centre

• OR Tambo government precinct administration building in Germiston

Marked donation bins have been placed at these venues for ease of contribution. After donating citizens will be required to fill in the register to note their contributions.

The city appeals to its residents to answer this request to assist the KZN province.
