Post Office clears the air on interruptions at Alberton’s Post Offices

The Post Office has shed light on some of the inconveniences and concerns received by locals regarding its services.

The National Post Service has responded about the functionality of Alberton’s Post Offices, particularly on Meyersdal Post Office.

Local Dulinda Delgado has, more than once, found Meyersdal Post Office closed and not rendering its services.
It has been a while now that these interruptions have been occurring, which are said to be caused by the Postal Service operating without any power supply.

Reports suggest that the power outage was due to the Postal Service’s electricity supply being cut.

Delgado said most people do their business online nowadays, however, the older generation still needs to physically visit the post office.

“You come here and one day it is open and the next it is closed. The Alberton Post Office is also not well-kept. On one occasion, Randhart Post Office happened to be closed the same day as Meyersdal Post Office. At one stage they were closed because of the air conditioner not working, which we can understand,” she said.

She also suggested that they should have fewer post offices and maintain the ones that are up and running.
According to Johan Kruger, spokesperson for the Postal Service, the Randhart Post Office has merged with the Bracken Gardens post office in Brackenhurst Square.

“Meyersdal Post Office is working without electricity, which means they cannot perform online transactions such as tracking and banking transactions. Collection of items and posting of items remain available, and we are working to restore the electricity supply. The New Redruth Post Office is open,” said Kruger.
