I bumped into a young man named Shane West at Bracken City shopping centre in July who works as a sales rep for Gym Company Bracken City.
He needed advice on how to successfully run a 24-hour spinathon, but was preparing to do a trial run with four-hour aerobics and spinning marathon first.
This initiative aimed to promote healthy living and allow Albertonians to experience a fitness marathon free of charge.
I advised him to secure a date and venue for the event, sponsors, aerobics and spinning instructors and include advertising.
Shane sent me an invitation seven weeks later to attend the four-hour event at Gym Company Bracken City on August 27 together with his colleague Busisiwe.
Silabela pulled off an amazing event with over 60 people taking part in the spinning and aerobics marathons.
I was inspired while watching 67-year-old instructor Louis Tattle, who led the spinning. His daughter, 49-year-old, Luize Tattle, instructed the Zumba-style aerobics classes with the help of Dj Donavon van Eck who played the most vibrant Latin American music.
Luize’s 23-year-old son, Jordan Morais, helped the contestants to stretch after the strenuous event.
Despite the difficult financial times brought by Covid, companies in Bracken City such as McDonald’s, Bracken City Optometrists, Pro Motion Sportswear, PEP, Emma Blue World Toys, Postnet and Mourad Barber sponsored prizes to help encourage all taking part.
An announcement for the date of the 24-hour event will be made soon, as Shane is currently pushing on a 12-week body transformation challenge for the public, kicking off in September.
Thank you to everyone who took part in this initiative.
