Bracken Library gets refurbished

Community members from Brackenhurst, Brackendowns and surrounding areas gathered to revamp Bracken Library on September 24.

Ward 38 Clr Thavha Malcolm Maifala-Masebe and friends of the Bracken Library took a day out to paint the Brackenhurst library.

Through several site visits, Maifala-Masebe identified various needs at the library and committed to assisting whenever needed.

Through the support of the community, the refurbishment that saw both young and old take part was a huge success.

The event included a clean-up, painting of the facility and planting of flowers in the library’s garden. Also present during the event was Ward 74 Clr Samantha Nair, who also showed her support.

Librarian Pat Mkefa thanked the team for their kind gesture. He said they have been longing for this revamp for a while now.

“This is good for the library, we have long desired this assistance. When it comes to municipal issues, there are long processes that are followed for us to get this kind of service. They managed to paint three rooms and five other areas, they also painted the signage of the library,” he said.

Brackenhurst resident Karin Serfontein said: “We were grateful to offer our support as we live in the area and regularly visit the library. We appeal to the community to kindly donate a hosepipe to the library’s gardener. This would be highly appreciated.”
