Walkerville’s boxer wins international bout

In a fight scheduled as a six-rounder, professional boxer Donjuan van Heerden recently made his mark in KwaZulu-Natal.

Walkerville’s Donjuan ‘Iron Dragon’ van Heerden continues to make a name for himself in the boxing world.

The 21-year-old professional boxer battled Congolese fighter Giresse Wingui on November 17. He won on a unanimous point decision.

Scheduled as a six-round bout in the middleweight division, the non-title fight saw the skilful boxer out-box his opponent.

The outstanding win might land him a title bout soon.

“I went through a six-week hard training camp and my coaches Vusi and Sechaba have really improved my fighting skills. I’ll just keep on getting better from here. My manager Colleen has done a phenomenal job with my career and I believe we will still take over the world of boxing in a good way,” he said.

Donjuan said he will only be off for a week, taking it easy, and then be back into training to strengthen himself and improve his skills.

“I just want to give all the glory and honour to my Lord and Savior Jesus. He has blessed me with a talent no one can take away from me. This just shows that hard work and prayer will forever pay off and count in my favour. By next year I will be fighting for a title,” explained Donjuan.

His manager Colleen McAusland said he is in a league of his own and that she is building his career steadily.

“Donjuan makes me very proud, he puts God first and is a true example of no matter what life deals out, you can bounce back if you believe in yourself. South Africa must watch Donjuan, he is going places. He is like a son to me,” she said.
