Fire in West Turffontein displaces 15

The Bellavista Community Forum urged the community to donate to the destitute families.

A home on 57 Stanton Street, West Turffontein, burnt to ashes, leaving 15 people stranded on June 5.

Portia Moyo, who lived in the house, said the fire started in a room where a four-year-old was, and a suspected faulty plug might have caused it.

“We have nothing except the clothes we are wearing. The fire gutted everything. Even the first fire engine to respond could not contain the fire. Others came later, but it was too late.

“We appeal to people of the South to help us with whatever they can. Some adults and children are destitute and have nothing because of the fire,” she said.

The fire burnt the four-year-old’s arms, but the other residents were not home when it started.

Zanele O’Rayn from Bellavista Community Forum appealed for help to assist the families.

“We help anyone in the South, especially when disaster strikes. We urge anyone with something to drop it off on 71 Park Street, West Turffontein,” she said.
