Box Office will host the South African Master Box middleweight title on July 29 at the Portuguese Club House Grill.
Gym owner Anton Gilmore said boxing was still alive and well. The Master Box brand was launched last November with a few bouts at Lionel’s Southern Giant, giving retired pros and amateur fighters a chance to win a title after the 35-year age limit.
“Master Box provides combatants with the opportunity to win Gauteng, South African, and world titles, proving it is never too late to achieve your goals with Master Box,” said Gilmore.
Gilmore further said, “As a former boxer, I am also eager to get back to my former self and win a major title, but that opportunity has already been taken by a few other fighters, and it will be laid out in July.
“Johnny Koen won the Gauteng title in March at the Master Box Giant in Brixton, defeating Grant Habib in a close fight in front of 700 spectators. Now, Stephen Castle, the chairperson of Master Box SA, has scheduled an eliminator bout between Wynand Mulder and James Britz on July 5 at his Lock, Stock and Beer world boxing entertainment event to determine who will face Johnny Koen on the day,” said Gilmore.
Gilmore said this would be the main event at the Giant with the heavyweight title eliminator as the co-main event.
“Others competing in this event include Gareth van der Merwe, Greig Walker vs Enoch Masambudzi, Welcome Ntchingila, Andre Pool, and a rematch between Hylton Turner and Morne Theunissen.
“Johnny Anthony and Rudi Bruwer will compete in the SA Heavy Title Eliminator for the heavyweight title. Johnny defeated Daniel Bruwer, and now his brother steps up to handle family business, with the winner taking on a name that will be revealed following Castle’s next event.
“The undercard will feature Box Office fighters such as Wesley Brummer, Devyn Abrahams, Patrick Gates, and a few big names who will be confirmed after negotiations.”
The event will be the highlight of the Giants Master Box series, leading up to a mega event in November with a potential international title. More details will be revealed.
