Women of substance celebrate Women’s Day

Various stakeholders and South Hills Library celebrated women.

The South Hills Library and other stakeholders celebrated women at the South Hills Recreation Hall on August 8.

Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame said this was a prestigious event celebrating women.

“Women’s Day is celebrated across SA. We celebrate the 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in 1956.

“I believe women made many strides but not enough to be recognised in the workplace and government. Gender-based violence (GBV) is still not low enough for the recognition of women.

“Women are still not protected or heard. We are the backbone of society and the mothers of the nation. I bleed when I see elderly mothers in the early hours going to City Deep Market to buy veggies to sell on street corners when it is time for them to relax and see the fruit of their offspring.

“Under the theme Accelerating socio-economic opportunities for women empowerment, South Hills Library under Region F gathered women to celebrate Women’s Day. It was good to see women dressing smart and empowering one another.

“The librarian in charge, Nontyileko Tinise-Masakaza, saw it fit to work with other stakeholders in the area like Frances Clarke, Sheron Khoikhoi -Ndlovu, Delores Mckenzie and Ayanda Bayisa.

”Women of substance, Old Mutual, and Region F manager Puleng Miya-Kekana graced the even,” Chame said.
