WATCH: Road damage causes annoyance for residents and motorists in Alberton North
Residents on 5th Avenue and Piet Ritief Street find it hard to sleep at night due to noise caused by cars driving past.
Residents and motorists have expressed their displeasure at the road damage on 5th Avenue and Piet Retief Street in Alberton North.
“We can’t even sleep at night, never mind the fact that it has the potential to damage our vehicles. Some of the residents on this street completely avoid driving past here and would rather use the next street.
“It has been more than two months of complaining and it still has not been resolved,” said one resident who prefers not to be named.
While the Alberton Record was at the scene of the damaged road some cars took a turn to the next street to avoid the damage. Other motorists slowed down to avoid causing damage to their cars.
“My wife and I no longer drive past this road even if we are supposed to head in its direction. We would rather drive to the street via another street in this neighbourhood because this road is bad. Look, it doesn’t even have a stop sign anymore,” added the frustrated resident.
The Alberton Record contacted the local ward councillor for comment and the communications department at the City of Ekurhuleni (COE). Both have not responded at the time of publishing. We will add their comments once received.
