SPAR Proteas gear up for Jamaican challenge
The SPAR Proteas netball team is set to take on Jamaica in a thrilling three-test series – can they overcome the Caribbean challenge?

The SPAR Proteas national netball team is gearing up for an exciting challenge as they travel to Jamaica to take on the Sunshine Girls in the Margaret Beckford Sunshine series.
The three-test series, which takes place from January 18 to 25, will be a crucial test for the South African team, who finished 2024 as the number-one ranked team in Africa.
Coach Jenny van Dyk acknowledges that playing in the Caribbean will be tough, but is confident in her team’s abilities.
“Our strategy will be to close the gap in the scoreline and then to go in hard, looking for the win,” said Van Dyk.
The team will be without star goal defence Karla Pretorius, who is being rested for the tour.
Rising star San-Marie Visser will take her place in the team. Assistant coach Zanele Mdodana, who played for the SPAR Proteas when they last toured Jamaica, is aware of the challenges that lie ahead.
“It’s tough to play Jamaica at home, but we made history when we beat them last time,” she continued.
