Sacred Heart College learner rakes in six distinctions

Allegresse Tekweme, a Sacred Heart College learner from South Crest, did exceptionally well bagging six distinctions after switching schools in Grade 11.

She obtained distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, information technology, life orientation and life sciences

“I am most grateful to my teachers and the marketing club in my school. My teachers always availed themselves to assist me in improving in areas of my academics where I had weaknesses, and the marketing club created a safe place for me outside of my academics where I could unleash my creativity and not dwell on the pressures of being in matric,” said Allegresse..

According to her, matric has taught her that everything that you’re taught throughout your schooling career is taught to you for a reason.

“Matric is a year where you’re required to put all those pieces together to better understand the subjects you do as a whole.”

She also said that she had the support of those around her to secure this achievement.

“My family and my youth leaders always prayed for me and encouraged me to never settle for less. My dad was always ready and willing to print for me many, many past papers and that really helped me.

“He also assisted me with mathematics and wherever he could. My mom always gave me affirmation when I was in doubt, which helped boost my confidence.

“I’m looking forward to growing, learning, and exploring the opportunities that lie ahead of me. To the matrics, remember that matric is a marathon, not a sprint.

“It is important that you set a pace that will ensure that you do not get burnt out easily before prelims and finals. To all learners discipline and sacrifice will help you go a long way in your academics,” Allegresse said.
