Alberton Lions Club rolls out community projects and fundraising initiatives for first quarter

Residents are invited to support a series of outreach programmes and fundraising events aimed at fighting hunger, supporting healthcare and uplifting vulnerable groups.

The Alberton Lions Club continues to make a meaningful impact in the community through a series of ongoing outreach programmes and planned fundraising initiatives running from January to March.

The projects will focus on addressing hunger, supporting healthcare needs, and uplifting vulnerable community members.

Alongside its regular weekly, bi-weekly and monthly activities, the club has lined up several additional initiatives over the next two months to ensure its community work remains sustainable and far-reaching.

Ongoing community projects
Several programmes are already underway and continue to provide consistent support across Alberton and the surrounding areas.

The club delivers fruit and vegetables bi-weekly to five nursery schools, ensuring young children receive essential nutrition during their early developmental years.

Twice a month, Mommy Care Bags are distributed to new mothers at South Rand Hospital, offering practical items and support during the early stages of motherhood.

Hunger relief remains a priority through the Street Feeding Programme, which is hosted on the last Tuesday of every month in partnership with Fish & Bread Ministries.

The initiative takes place opposite the Alberton Police Station. In addition, members take part in the LOTS (Life on the Streets) project, which involves weekly chopping and cooking of vegetables to assist people living on the streets.

The Smart Meals Programme rounds off the club’s monthly efforts, with meals distributed to four SASSA pensioner residential homes.

Upcoming fundraising initiatives
To sustain these vital projects, the Alberton Lions Club will host a series of fundraising events in the coming weeks.

A Big Walk for Young Warriors will take place on February 14 at Rietvlei Zoo Farm in support of children with cancer.
